NOTICE TO STARCOMMS TELEPHONE USERS

29th August, 2007

This is to inform the University Community that Starcomms is experiencing some technical problems with the University Virtual Private Network (VPN) which has led to calls being re-routed to other numbers. Therefore, it is advisable that in the meantime, members of staff should jettison the shortcut of telephone codes while making calls. That is, the full Starcomms number should be dialled (e.g. 8547349 should be dialled instead of the shortcut of 1349).

PROCEDURE FOR REPORTING TELEPHONE FAULTS
Official Starcomms line users are advised to report faulty handsets formally to the Chairman, Telephone Committee and submit same for necessary repairs or replacement as the case may be.

In the event of loss of handset, a formal report should be made and backed up by a police report and/ or sworn affidavit to:

Senior Telephone Technician,
Room 012, Administrative Block 1,
LASU.

GUIDELINES FOR USE OF LASU STARCOMMS LINES

  • Phone chargers should NOT be permanently left in electrical sockets.
  • Phones should NOT be used while they are being charged.
  • Phones should NOT be kept in high temperature areas like dashboards of locked vehicles.
  • Phones should NOT be inscribed upon in any manner.
  • LASU Starcomms line should also be kept alive and not switched off.

All other correspondence should be directed to the Chairman, telephone committee on 8547779.
