J. WILLIAM FULBRIGHT FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR
The University Community is hereby informed of the following Fulbright Scholarship Programmes tenable in the United State of America for the year 2008-2009.
Each Faculty is expected to nominate two (2) candidates for each of the two programmes and forward the nominations within the submission time indicated. The Curriculum Vitae of the nominees should be forwarded along with the nominations.
(A) Senior Faculty Members Award
This is particularly for senior lecturers and above from the Social Sciences and Humanities. This will offer senior Faculty members to conduct research in US Institutions for a minimum of three (3) months and a maximum of nine (9) months.
The deadline for the submission of completed applications to the Fulbright Scholarship Board is Friday, 15th June, 2007. Hence nominations from each Faculty should reach Prof. N.A. Olasupo (Dean of Science) latest by 15th May, 2007. Please note that submission of nominations after 15th May, 2007, from any Faculty will on no account be accepted.
(B) Junior Staff Development Programme
This is a non degree programme. It is designed to offer young and exceptionally promising faculty members the opportunity to conduct 9-12 Months research in a US Academic or Research Institution. Applicants must be at least two years into their doctoral programme in any discipline at a Nigerian University or Research Institute at the time of application. Please note that preference will be given to applicants in the areas of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.
The deadline for submission to the Fulbright Scholarship Board is Tuesday, 15th May, 2007. Hence, nominations from each Faculty should reach Prof. N.A. Olasupo (Dean of Science) latest by 15th April, 2007. Please note that submission of nominations after 13th April, 2007 from any Faculty will on no account be accepted.
CHANGE OF NAMES
(I) LASU COMMUNITY BANK RE-CHRISTENED LASU
MICRO FINANCE BANK LTD
The Governing Council of the University, at its 72nd Statutory Meeting, held on Tuesday, 3rd April, 2007, approved the change of name of Lagos State University Community Bank to LASU Micro Finance Bank Limited.
Henceforth, (LASU) Community Bank should now be known and addressed as LASU Micro Finance Bank Limited.
(II) EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CENTRE RENAMED
UNIVERSITY MULTIMEDIA CENTRE (UMC)
At its meeting of Monday, 16th April, 2007, the University Management approved the change of name of the Educational Technology Centre (Edu.Tech.) to University Multimedia Centre, (UMC).
The University community is hereby informed that Educational Technology Centre should henceforth be known and addressed as the University Multimedia Centre.

OBITUARY
(a) With great shock and deep regret the University Management announces the sudden death of Mr. Johnson Temitope ADEDEJI, which sad event occurred in a fatal accident along Badagry Express Road, on 21st March, 2007.
Late Mr. Adedeji, was until his death, a highly dedicated and hardworking staff in the Non -Academic Staff Establishment and Training Division of the Registry. He had contributed immensely to the development of the University. His death is not only a great loss to the family but also to the University as a whole.
(b) In the same vein, the sudden demise of Mrs. Rhoda Modupe FADEYI, which sad event occurred on Friday, 6th April, 2007 was also announced.
Mrs. Fadeyi, until her death, was a hardworking lecturer in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences.
(c) Lastly, the University Management also commiserates with Mr. Sam Ogrih, Vice Chairman, Lekki campus of the university on the death of his mother-in-law, Princess Euyanena Eunice. Late Princess Euyanena Eunice died at a ripe age of 81 years.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Lateef Akanni Hussain , on behalf of the University Management and the entire staff and students commiserates with the
family of the deceased and prays that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
